Birthday Boy

April 29, 2010 | Filed Under My Life | Leave a Comment

So, I’ve decided to make this blog a little more personal. It’s too cold and stale for me. Don’t get me wrong – the sneak peeks aren’t cold and stale. I love them! I just think there needs to be more. I want to interact with my readers (if I have any!) so I can get to know you and so you can get to know me. So with that, meet my son…

Kindergarten, and age 5, definitely changed him. He’s becoming more and more of a “boy”. He loves to play: Lego’s, army, and army with Lego’s. He loves Star Wars – oh but that’s not new. The Husband introduced him to the original Trilogy at age 3. A little young for me, but he handled it well and has been a SW fan from that day forward. He loves the dirt, the mud, and exploring.

My pride and joy recently turned 6. It sounds so cliché to say something like “it’s amazing at how fast he has grown up”, but it’s TRUE! He’s still my baby and always will be. He’s sweet, he’s smart, he’s thoughtful. He is my heart outside of my body. When I was a child my mom used to tell me, “I love you more than you’ll ever know.” She was right. Now it’s my turn to tell him, “I love you more than you’ll ever know.”

My friend and fellow photographer, Holly Bonner, took pictures of his party for me. If you have kids and you’ve tried to be in the moment and take pictures at the same time, you know that it’s pretty much impossible. So thank you, Holly! Thank you for letting me be in the moment.

The cupcakes – right after I iced them, but before the sprinkles.

With his friend (or as he calls her, his “girlfriend”). They’re a whopping 13 days apart. The husband and I went to college with her parents, which means we’ve known each other FOREVER. I look at this photo and I can’t help but see them as teenagers walking side-by-side just like this.

and last but not least…..I bet you can’t guess who won the musical chairs contest?! And NO, it was not fixed!!

Little Miracles – Newborn Photography, Carthage, Texas

These sweet little boys were born very early and after four months are finally home from the hospital. Mr. C decided he’d sack out for me right away and get his session over with, but his brother, Mr. P thought otherwise. He either figured a) I couldn’t be trusted so he was having no part of sleeping for his session, or b) he couldn’t get enough of me and wanted me to come back the next day. I’d like to think that he loved me so much he wanted me to come back. =)

Thank you so much mom and dad for choosing me to photograph these sweet loves of yours! It was such an honor and I can’t wait for you to see the rest!

Why the name change?

April 23, 2010 | Filed Under Info | Leave a Comment

I wrote this up 3 weeks ago and didn’t realize I never published it. Oops!

I’m sure several of you might be wondering why I changed the name of my business. There are a couple of reasons, but the main one is that it felt right. It was a change that I felt strongly needed to happen, so I did it and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Check out pretty little Miss S. and her beautiful brown eyes. No offense to any other ages, but aside from newborns this is my favorite age. They sit up, stand up, look at you when you call them and smile a lot, but they aren’t quite mobile! =)

I love this little denim dress she brought along for her session. Isn’t it the cutest?!

Mom was so sweet to try out one of my new wardrobe props on her (thank you!!!) – this adorable hot pink romper. She rocked it and the pearls!

Miss Z and Mr G – Mt. Pleasant, Texas Child Photography

Meet Miss Z and her little brother, Mr. G. We had a fun and interesting time together! Poor Miss Z got the leg of her pants wet pretty early on in the session and it was very upsetting for her. I finally talked her into singing me the ABC’s, and got her to pretend laugh for me which was REALLY funny! She is a hoot!

Mr. G knows what he wants and having his picture taken was not on the list. =)

Look at these gorgeous boys! I’ve known their momma since she was in junior high – a sweet girl turned sweet lady! She and her husband have lived in New England for the last several years and are getting ready to move to, as my old boss would say, “The Great State of Texas”! I’m certain her mom and dad are looking forward to having their baby closer to home. More chances to see those grandbabies!

Here’s your sneak peek – complete with a couple of shots of their beautiful cousins!

Displaying Your Portraits

February 22, 2010 | Filed Under Client Share, Ideas | Leave a Comment

I was dusting the house this weekend and of course had to move some photos off of the entry table to dust it and the photos. Then I moved on over to a cute little antique chair I have in the living room and moved the portrait off of it to dust it. Then I thought about y’all. I wondered how you display your portraits in your homes.

So many of us just do things the way they’ve always been done. We hang our framed portraits on the wall, in the obvious locations, and we scatter smaller sized photos throughout the house on a bookshelf or something similar. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with this – we all do it and it’s okay, but what about the not so obvious locations?

placesforportraits2 I’ve stepped out over the last few years and tried to be different with where I display portraits in my home. For example, I have an old dresser in my kitchen. Sounds weird to some of you, I’m sure, but we bought my husband’s grandparent’s old farmhouse (built by his grandfather!) and there was some furniture still in the house at the time. Well, one of the pieces was this old dresser. Since I have this really long and skinny kitchen with not a whole lot of drawers and cabinets I moved that dresser in there to use it as a place to store cookie sheets, rolling pins, casserole dishes, etc. I utilize the top of the dresser as a space to display old family portraits. I have framed prints of my dad as a child, a portrait of my grandfather that he sent to my grandmother when he was in the war signed, “With all my love, Daddy”, as well as one of my great-grandfather.

As mentioned above, I have a framed photo of my son sitting on an antique chair in my living room. It’s cracked and not safe for someone to sit on, so I decided I’d remedy that by putting a photo in the seat! I also have a small photo of our son framed and hanging above a couple of light switches in another room.

We all know that Pottery Barn has some neat ideas in their catalogs as well. I have a client who has created her own family gallery of her two kids on either side of their fireplace and it looks fabulous! So tell me, what do you do with your images? Leave a comment, or email me your ideas (and pictures too!) and you might just get featured here on the blog!

Check out the eyes on this two month old little girl! Beautiful, huh? We had a great time photographing her in her fabulous room this morning. She is so tiny and such a sweet thing. Thank you, S, for having me out – enjoy your sneak peek!

I adore this one of her about to cry. It’s so cute. She really wasn’t interested in lifting her head and showing off this fabulous hat!
